So, I'M ENGAGED!

I should update more in here. Maybe I will... tomorrow. It's off to bed for me now, I'm sleepy and need to work in the AM. |

I don't often post in lj anymore, but I still read stuff. I guess I'll post now.
I love this "cold" weather we're having. It is 60 degrees inside right now. Our house has all wood floors, and we refuse to use the heater, so we bought some of those easy to use fire logs and have been having nice cozy fires in our fireplace the past 2 nights. Natalie and Bianca came over last night and we made smores and created the most ridiculous facebook picture album. It was fun.
I realized that I really miss college, the first two years at least right before nursing school. Nursing school consumed my life. I had a dream last night that I was trying to take the GRE. The campus I was on was a mixture of UCF, Clay High School, and construction zones w/ Bianca's furniture in it, haha. It was taking me hours to finish it, and they kept moving me around campus, and I didn't know any of the questions. Then I woke up.
Anyhow, I guess I'll head to the gym before our nursing meeting at 4. |

I can tell by the large amount of terrible drivers near our house. Speaking of houses, I'm moving this saturday to a pretty awesome house with mark, zack, and bryan. I also just bought a bedroom set of furniture from IKEA. I'm excited... |

I've decided that I need to lose weight. This may be hard considering the lack of gym access soon. I might join one, but those are expensive, and I really need to save money to buy a new car.
All you OP ppl who might still read this: I think I'm going home for a few days next week. I don't work from sat-wed. So, I was thinking coming home on monday. Plus my daddy's birthday is the 24th. Wow, this month has flown by.
Speaking of birthdays, I kinda want to get a huge group and go to Busch Gardens for my birthday... or some weekend-day in august. I will make a facebook notification once I find out my schedule tomorrow. |

| | anxious | ] | I just completed a 5 day orientation to ORMC. It was pretty fun, actually. I didn't mind putting an IV into an arm that has kool-aid coming out of it. I wish they had those in nursing school, they were pretty realistic. We also did a bunch of computer training, which most of us UCF alum had in the past, so we surfed the internet.
I'm taking the NCLEX (big nursing exam) on wednesday. I hope I'm ready. I think I'll be ok.
Then, I start on the Neuro unit on thursday. Hopefully that will be the only day still as a GN (graduate nurse). It takes about two days to process the NCLEX results. If all goes as planned, I will be an RN (registered nurse) by next friday. yikes.... I better pass... |

I want to move to LA so I can be on pimp my ride, I think my car would be one of those cases that they just get me a new car and trash the metro.
Speaking of which, I ran into my friend Mark the other day... as in.. my car into his. I can't open my hood, it drives the same. It's in the shop now and I got a rental car. The insurance guy said they will set me up w/ the cheapest car. Enterprise picked me up, me and the lady talked about Universal. My economy car is a Chrysler PT Cruiser. Me: "umm, this is the cheapest car?" lady: "yeah, it's friday, we don't have anything else, we'll still just charge the economy price, happy friday." woo
I want a new car. |

| "are you serious?" |
[Jun. 1st, 2007|01:17 pm] |
So, a few weeks ago, Carl, Steve, Kat, and I went to Froggers, a sports bar, they had mediocre wings. As we were leaving, I saw a "Win a cruise to the Bahamas!" signing up thingy. I quickly put in a name, as we were leaving the place.
I got a call today from this lady "On May 14, 2007, you were at Froggers" At first I thought I was in trouble somehow, then she mentioned that I signed up to win a cruise, I forgot I had done that, and she said I won!! I was like "what? seriously?" in my monotone voice, plus I was quiet b/c I was sitting in Barnes and Noble.
Heh, so I have a free cruise, I have 18 months to go on it, but they need $87 by June 6 to send me the packet and get me squared away. It's a 4 day, 3 night stay in some hotel in the Bahamas. I can have one guest. Who wants to go w/ me? :-P
This is very weird.
Oh, also, HR is retarded, the recruiter said my appt was at 9:40, I got there at 9:30, took about an hr to sign all the paperwork. Then, I walked over to the clinic around 10:30, and they said my appt w/ them was supposed to be at 9:40... grr. Ohwell, I'm rescheduled to get the physical done on Monday.. 9:40.. I think I'll get there extra early, just in case.
Strange day. very strange |

| I got a nurse job |
[Apr. 17th, 2007|08:21 am] |
|
I chose to work on the Neurology unit. I talked with several people who worked there or had their practicum there. I heard it's mostly head traumas and brain surgery patients. Sounds exciting. I didn't hear any complaints about the unit, other than it's busy. But, what unit isn't busy at ORMC? It's the only level one trauma center in central forida. I start whenever I get my seating pass to take state boards. I sent all that info in about two weeks ago. And, I graduate in 2 weeks. Oi vey.... |

| what should I do? |
[Mar. 22nd, 2007|08:50 am] |
This is long but oh so important to me
Ok, so it seems that everyone and their grandma's have at least applied for jobs they can have after graduation. Like the procrastinator I am, I've barely thought about it. Well, actually I think about it all the time, but I haven't thought of any decisions.
Ok, so here's the deal. Orlando has competing hospitals ORMC and Florida Hospital. I currently work at Florida Hosp. East. It's pretty shitty, I want to specialize in something and one day go to grad school. That's where ORMC would be a good place, being a teaching hospital, it's like Grey's Anatomy over there. East's PCU is all general, booo.
I did practicum at ORMC main downtown campus at a Cardiac PCU. I really liked that. The heart intrigues me, plus the doctors are much younger and willing to listen to you.
I did my observation at the Trauma ICU at ORMC downtown. I honestly liked it, but I dunno about the whole talking to the family thing telling them their 18y/o son just died. But, there's a Burn/Trauma stepdown unit... hmmm, that stuff does excite me, even more so than the heart.
So, I see that I want to work at ORMC rather than Florida Hospital. But, what should I do? I just worked last night for the first time in 3 months at Florida Hospital, and it wasn't that bad. The new tower is NIICCE, and I think I should buy those rolly shoes b/c there's a ton of walking involved b/c the unit is gigantic.
Hmm... ORMC? Florida Hospital? Burn/Trauma stepdown? Cardiac PCU? General PCU? ICU? buh.. i just want someone to tell me what to do... so please just tell me what should I do? |

| i'll make a post |
[Jan. 31st, 2007|11:30 am] |
I haven't posted in a few weeks. I think the last one I made was complaining about something. That is most likely. This semester has been slow, and I have a serious condition of senioritis. I haven't started on any projects or papers. We have a paper due in 2 weeks, and I'm doing clinical 3 days that week before it's due, I should get started now, but I just don't care. I'm on a cardiac PCU for clinical. It's not bad. I'm learning a lot of meds for the heart, and learning how to convert someone in A-fib to sinus rhythm (that's what most of my patient's have come in for). It's not ICU, but I think this is good. It's a better starting point. It's also night shift, so the people are crazy, like any night shift. I called work a few days ago saying that I'm not sure when I can return. I had to speak with Dan, who is the main night shift nurse manager. He said "That is never a problem, just give us a call when you can work. We want you to stay with us." And, then the hospital where I'm doing clinical is saying "You should work for us, speak to Rosa, she will be here in the morning."
Buh, I don't know. I don't want to think about where I will work. I enjoy being lazy. This is bad.
Speaking of lazy, I should study.
This past weekend was fun. Good times, good times.
UCF basketball game tonight against a ranked team, I hope we don't get beat too bad. If we play like we did the last game I saw, we most likely will. Need to learn to rebound.. not that I know anything about basketball.
Alright, I hope everyone is doing well. good bye |

| Grades |
[Dec. 15th, 2006|07:08 pm] |
Just b/c I tend to do this every semester. I got all A's again. My cumulative GPA is a 3.684
I told myself a while back this semester that if I got all A's then I would go to grad school.
Let's see if I keep that promise to myself. I'm not sure what to do at all right now. I feel as though I can make the grades, but I feel like I'd be a crappy nurse, just b/c sometimes I can't communicate w/ the patients that well. I dunno... I'm not going to be perfect right now.. or ever for that matter
Anyhow, things are looking good for me right now. I'm actually happy. :)
And if I don't post in here for a while, Merry Christmas everyone! |

I feel like posting. All of the major projects are done w/ school, and this excites me.
I went out last night, and went to Spirit Splash for the first time ever this past Friday. That was fun, and Natalie, Kathleen, Nicole, and I all wore our uniforms, since we went there straight from clinicals. We're such nerds.
Went out Saturday night at City Walk again. This is becoming expensive. And a tad creepy.
I dunno what else to say. been hanging out w/ david lately, eh...
Oh, I keep getting the chance to watch procedures in the ICU, like an ICP (intra cranial pressure) basically they drilled a hole in the guys head and put in a catheter that is hooked to a machine to tell you the pressure. They were unsuccessful. A week later, we heard that he had to go through a lobectomy, and removed part of his skull. Then this past friday I watched them put in a trachestomy and a peg tube (feeding tube). And, I saw the staples on his head where they did the lobectomy. They said if he wakes up they're going to put the skull piece back on.
This probably grossed out more ppl than not, sorry.
I think I'll shower now. |
